About Sky Pond via Glacier Gorge — Colorado Hiking Trail Guide

Sky Pond is arguably one of the most rewarding destinations in all of Rocky Mountain National Park. The journey from the Glacier Gorge Trailhead takes you past Alberta Falls, through lush Mills Moraine, alongside shimmering Glass Lake, and finally scrambles up the dramatic Timberline Falls to reach Sky Pond itself. Each section of the hike builds on the last, culminating in a high alpine cirque ringed by serrated summits.

The scramble up Timberline Falls deserves special mention. Hikers must navigate a short but exposed section of wet rock beside the waterfall — it's not technical climbing, but it requires both hands and confident footwork. Once above the falls, the terrain opens into the Cathedral Spires basin, and Sky Pond reveals itself as a stunning, deep blue lake edged by snow and reflected peaks.

Give yourself a full day for this one. Rushing through the hike means missing countless small wonders — the American pipits near the tundra, the ptarmigan camouflaged in the talus, the way the light catches the granite walls in the afternoon.
