About Booth Falls Trail — Colorado Hiking Trail Guide

Booth Falls is a beloved Vail-area hike that packs an impressive amount of scenery into a relatively accessible trail. The path climbs steadily from the Booth Falls Trailhead just north of Vail, weaving through aspen groves and wildflower meadows before revealing Booth Falls — a dramatic 60-foot cascade that's especially thunderous during peak snowmelt in late spring and early summer.

The trail continues well past the falls for those seeking more elevation. Continue another mile to reach Booth Lake, a tranquil alpine lake sitting at 11,480 feet, surrounded by bristlecone pines and granite slopes. The views back toward Vail and the Gore Range from the upper section of the trail are outstanding. Most day hikers turn around at the falls, so the upper trail is noticeably quieter.

The lower section of the trail passes through private land briefly — stay on the designated path and respect the posted signs. The trail surfaces vary from compact dirt to rocky scramble sections near the top. This is a great conditioning hike for those preparing for bigger Colorado objectives.
